Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend Air North for flights into the north. They’re a Yukon-based carrier that knows this region well and handles the kinds of gear hunters bring far better than the major airlines. If you have routing flexibility, Calgary is a better connection point than Vancouver; it’s less congested, and we’ve found it more reliable for getting hunters and gear north on schedule.

Yes, driving is a great option if you want to bring your trophy and meat back yourself. We have a safe, secure place to park your vehicle at no extra cost for the duration of your hunt. When you return, we can store your meat in our cooler, and we offer a professional butcher service on-site if you’d like it cut and packed before the drive home.

Non-resident hunters require a BC non-resident hunting licence and a Limited Entry Hunting (LEH) permit or draw authorization for most trophy species. Some species (Stone Sheep, Mountain Goat) require authorizations that are drawn by lottery; we’ll work with you on timing and the application process. Refer to the Region 7B Hunting Synopsis for full details, and reach out to us early.

Both caribou and grizzly bear seasons are currently closed in BC. Grizzly bear hunting was ended by the provincial government in 2017 and remains closed pending legal and regulatory review; see our conservation section below for more detail. Woodland caribou closures are related to population management. We hope these seasons reopen in the future and we’ll update this page when they do.

Stone Sheep and Mountain Goat hunts are demanding: you’ll be at elevation, covering steep terrain for multiple days. We strongly recommend a serious fitness program in the months leading up to your hunt. Moose and elk hunts are more accessible, with lake-based and horseback options available. We’re happy to discuss what to expect for your specific hunt so you can prepare accordingly.

All hunts include guide service, fly-in transportation from base camp, camp accommodation, all meals in the field, and meat care. What’s not included: your BC hunting licence and tags, gratuities, trophy preparation and shipping, and any personal travel to base camp. We Hunt Because We Care

Scoop Lake Outfitters is a proud member of the Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia (GOABC). Licensed guide outfitters are among the most active stewards of BC’s wild spaces, our livelihood depends on healthy wildlife populations and intact wilderness, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Hunters are the original conservationists in this territory. Licence fees, tag revenues, and outfitter contributions directly fund wildlife management programs across the province.

Grizzly Bear — Class Action Certification

The closure of the grizzly bear hunt remains a deeply important issue to our industry and to the communities that depend on guide outfitting. GOABC has been pursuing class action certification on behalf of affected outfitters. We encourage you to learn more and support this effort.
