Scoop Lake Outfitters (“we,” “us”) operates scooplake.com. This policy explains what we collect and why. We keep it short because we keep it simple.

What we collect

Information you give us. When you fill out a contact or reservation form, or sign up for our newsletter, we collect the details you enter — typically your name, email address, phone number, and anything you write in your message.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our server and analytics tools record basic technical data: IP address, browser type, device, pages visited, and referring site. This helps us keep the site running and understand what visitors find useful.

How we use it

We use your information to:

• Answer your questions and arrange hunts, fishing trips, and travel details
• Send newsletters and updates, if you asked for them
• Keep the website secure and working properly

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.

Why we are allowed to use your information

Where the law asks us to have a specific reason for handling your information, ours are:

• To do what you asked. We need your details to answer your enquiry and arrange your trip.
• Because you agreed. Newsletters, analytics and advertising cookies all run on your consent, and you can take it back at any time.
• To run the business properly. Keeping the site secure and our records straight.
• Because we have to. Tax and accounting rules set how long we keep booking records.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers we need to run the business — our website host, and our email and newsletter platform. Each handles your data on our behalf. We also use the analytics and advertising tools described below. We may share information where the law requires it. We do not sell your information.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies for three things: keeping the site working, understanding how it’s used, and showing our ads.

Google Analytics 4 tells us how many people visit, which pages they read, and how they found us. Google processes this data on our behalf. You can opt out across all sites with Google’s browser add-on.

Meta Pixel lets us measure our Facebook and Instagram ads and show ads to people who have visited the site. This means Meta receives information about your visit — pages viewed and actions taken — and can match it to your Facebook or Instagram account if you have one. You can control this in your Meta ad preferences and through your device’s ad-tracking settings.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.

Where your information goes

We are based in Canada, and some of the companies we rely on are in the United States. That includes Google for analytics and Meta for advertising. Those transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which is the arrangement the European Commission recognises for sending information of this kind to American companies.

Embedded content

Some pages include content from other sites (videos, maps, social posts). Those sites may collect data about you and set their own cookies, exactly as if you had visited them directly. Their privacy policies apply to that content.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry records for two years after we last hear from you. Booking and payment records we keep for seven years, because Canadian tax rules require it. Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe, and every email has an unsubscribe link. Our analytics records are kept for 14 months. After those periods we delete them.

Your choices

You can:

• Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
• Ask us to delete it
• Ask us to stop or limit what we are doing with it
• Ask for your information in a portable file, or ask us to send it on to someone else
• Change your mind about tracking at any time, using the Cookie Policy link at the bottom of any page, or the unsubscribe link in any email

Email us and we will take care of it, apart from anything we are required to keep by law. We will reply within one month.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
