Mountain Caribou: Season Open July 2026
Caribou hunting was suspended in this region in 2022 following a Supreme Court ruling related to Indigenous treaty rights. Northern Mountain herds in our area have since recovered well, and the BC government proposed a limited entry hunt near Fort Nelson for the 2026–2028 season.

Grizzly Bear: Closed Province-Wide
BC banned all non-Indigenous grizzly bear hunting in December 2017. The closure was driven by public opinion, not a conservation emergency. Grizzly populations in our territory remain healthy, but the regulation stands and we comply with it fully.
There is ongoing discussion at the provincial level about a future stewardship framework that could revisit the hunt. We’ll update this page if that changes. View the information below to learn more.

Scoop Lake Outfitters is a proud member of the Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia (GOABC). Licensed guide outfitters are among the most active stewards of BC’s wild spaces, our livelihood depends on healthy wildlife populations and intact wilderness, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Hunters are the original conservationists in this territory. Licence fees, tag revenues, and outfitter contributions directly fund wildlife management programs across the province.
Grizzly Bear — Class Action Certification
The closure of the grizzly bear hunt remains a deeply important issue to our industry and to the communities that depend on guide outfitting. GOABC has been pursuing class action certification on behalf of affected outfitters. We encourage you to learn more and support this effort.
